A Warning About Buying Organic Foods

Health is a major issue for all of us and one of the latest and greatest health crazes is eating organic foods. It’s definitely true that these foods are healthier than chemically treated ones. However, here’s a warning about organic foods. They aren’t necessarily organic!

That’s right, something that’s stamped organic may not even truly be organic. How is that possible Well, for a start, the USDA only requires a product to be at least 70 percent organic for it to put its seal of approval on that product. That means that the other thirty percent could be almost anything.

Another trick of the trade is to use phrases like contains organic materials. What does that mean Well, it usually means that money hungry businesses want to get people who buy organics to use their products. However, a totally organic product would cost more. So, their solution is to replace one component of a food with something organic so that they can put the word organic on the food label.

There’s also a third trick. The word organic actually has two meanings. To most of us, organic means that the food was grown free of chemicals and pesticides. However, it can also mean containing carbon, which can apply to almost anything, including some very unhealthy materials.

So, the bottom line is to not judge a book by its cover. Just because it says organic doesn’t mean it is. If you want true organics, you need to go to an organic farm, read your food labels andor do some research to find the true products. Products that are truly healthy and organic can really improve your quality of life, though. So, they’re well worth the hunt.
